Summer's Last Hurrah

Please go to waukeshacivictheatre.org for more information. We'd love to have you join us!

It's August.  Already!  Where did summer go?  That's a question we ask a lot, isn't it?  Every year, in fact.

June eases us into summer.  Vacations are planned, school is dismissed and there we are; enjoying the sweet smells, sounds, sights and tastes of summer when all of a sudden, like slamming on the brakes - there's August.  Maybe we haven't noticed it because it's the month that creeps up on us while July passes in a scramble of activity.  Whatever the reason for the question, August is a mixed bag.  It's like emotional sweet/sour sauce.  It's the month we still feel summer's caressing warmth, while denying the brush of autumn's hand.

Now, summer is fast waning. School looms with a constant barrage of store ads.  Kids and grandkids are gearing up, whether for the first time or the last, as classes resume.  Maybe that first child is leaving home, or perhaps your nest is going to be empty, finally.  Routine promises to return.  Some people feel relief, others not.  And sometimes we get so caught up in what's to come, we forget to enjoy what is.  I know I do that.  Enjoying the moment I'm in is something I have to diligently remind myself to do.

So, before we get too far ahead of ourselves and start thinking of autumn and the subsequent season some of us get stuck in; let's enjoy summer's last hurrah.  For me, that'll include attending Waukesha Civic Theatre's August shows.

The first is Fiona Molloy.  "Waukesha's queen of Irish folk music brings her unique vocals and incredible guitar playing to WCT, including some American and World Folk tunes sure to make you smile."  She'll be performing August 13-14, 2010.

Think of this as a get-in-the-mood prelude to Milwaukee's Irish Fest, (August 19-22, 2010).  Having been to both Ireland and the equally enchanting Irish/Scottish flavored Prince Edward Island; I'm looking forward to the toe-tapping, lighten-the-heart and maybe the bring-a-tear-to-the-eye music that's fiery, fantastic, Fiona!

Next is, Shake Rattle & Roll, "An ALL NEW musical tribute to the 50's & 60's by the team that produced last year's break out hit Malt Shop Memories.  Featuring classics by The Beatles, The Four Seasons, Elvis Presley, and more," Shake Rattle & Roll will be rocking downtown Waukesha August 20-29, 2010.  This music though dubbed as 'oldies', has always been fun and spans generations.

Do yourself a favor this month.  Ward off the end-of-summer blues with memory-making music at WCT.  Shake, rattle & roll yourself down to the box office and enjoy these PIX FIX's along with me.
