the life of the puppy
I visited our potential future dog yesterday. I thought we'd wait until our financial stability improved, but it's been too quiet around here. The family really wants a dog for Christmas.
Wanted to give a little thought to our next pet. Didn't really want the dog that anyone would adopt. Maybe we'd rescue one that was scheduled to be put down. I believed that when we found the right one we'd know it.
I recently ran into someone I knew at Pick 'N Save. He had run into a stranger at the pharmacy who's dog was having pups. He got the phone number because he thought he might be interested in a dog for himself. This particular set of pups interested me because they were scheduled to be aborted within a day of them being rescued. The pregnant dog was abandoned in Milwaukee when the current owner in Waukesha heard about it from a neighbor. The would-be rescuer felt so bad about it that she went to the effort of trying to track it down at an animal shelter or pound and was successful. She scraped and borrowed the money to bail it out and the dog had her 6 pups a couple weeks ago.
The pups are alive thanks to the compassion of a stranger. We're taking a chance with it's size and temperament, it's health and breeding, but when it's right you know it, especially when considering the mother dog's distinct resemblance to our Snickers.
