Here's something I can appreciate. A light-hearted approach to one of the least anticipated (for me at least) shopping days of the year. A Black Friday from Scrooge's perspective.
I often think, around this time of year, of the chaos surrounding Christmas. Last night I heard holiday music on the radio for the first time this year. Nothing quite like it puts me in the mood for going into more debt.
I've written in the past about how quiet Downtown Waukesha seemed compared to the malls and big box stores on the day after Thanksgiving. If price and selection is right I will shop where it is calmest and where I can park less than a quarter mile from the entrance. The independents will remember me three months from now, but will the malls and chain stores? I will even pay slightly more for unique or handmade, useful or free-trade gifts.
There's something new this year in Downtown Waukesha. It's a step in the right direction to direct more Black Friday shoppers this way. Another fun game for Waukesha visitors. Fabulous white elephant gifts await! All you have to do is visit the participating merchants on Friday the 26th or Saturday the 27th and announce "Bah! Humbug!" Each merchant visit is worth one, two or three points or items. Collect twelve and turn them in at Waukesha Tattoo Company on West Main to be entered in the raffle. Good Luck!
