summer fest
Last year I blogged about a facebook-arranged, informal high school reunion: The Unofficial, Unsanctioned Waukesha North Multi-Year Reunion. It was held at Crabby Joe's in Waukesha and included a visit to Friday Night Live to see fellow classmate Tim McNulty and hear his band, Barefoot 'N Bluejeans, outside Martha Merrell's.
This year's 2nd Annual unsanctioned reunion was combined with an existing event, a summer festival in it's 19th year: Summer Solstice 2012. Though summer officially began Wednesday, the unofficial reunion / Summer Solstice was Saturday.
Held in Tim's Town of Waukesha backyard, Solstice 2012 had an ideal outdoor location with backyard sloping toward the house and patio (stage) forming a natural amphitheater with several trees for shade, and a level sideyard for games and such.
One of the "and such" was an "aerial yoga" set-up similar to a swingset frame hung with a nylon fabric loop from which amateurs could demonstate embarrasing moves and compromising positions. Of course I had to give it a try.
Several hundred people showed up for the day-long event, many bringing a dish to pass. It's a good thing the neighbors were onboard and in attendance, because there were cars parked everywhere. Only about two dozen Waukesha North classmates could make it, but it was great seeing them and meeting their spouses.
Barefoot 'N Bluejeans was the headlining act, but many diverse and interesting groups played the open mic throughout the day and into the evening.
There was much to do in the area this last weekend, many events I've already done previous years. The weather was great for festivals. I am so glad I got to a new event, met new people and tried new things. Hope you had a good weekend too.
