The Capitol Connection

A fifth-generation Wisconsinite, Dave grew up in a family business, seeing firsthand the barriers to success big government places in front of small business. Hired out of college as an aide to Congressman Paul Ryan, Dave worked the next nine years helping Ryan advance the cause of limited government and the free enterprise system - while also holding a job in the private sector. Elected to represent the 83rd Assembly District in a special election in May of 2011, Dave has fought alongside Governor Walker to put Wisconsin's economy back on track, balancing the budget for the first time in over a decade, enacting concealed carry legislation and helping lead the fight against ObamaCare in Wisconsin. Before his election, Dave also served in various leadership positions in his church and also served on the Village of Big Bend Board of Trustees. In his free time, Dave enjoys spending time with his family, hunting and bowfishing. Dave and his wife, Amy, make their home in the Town of Vernon with their five children.

Some Try to Ban Hunting Ammunition

2nd Amendment

Earlier this month I discovered that a bill drafted by four Democrats from Milwaukee would ban the type of ammunition required for hunting deer and bear in Wisconsin, as well as ban the ammunition used by most for self-defense purposes. Here is my press release highlighting the Democrat proposal and also the Media Trackers story outlining the folly of this legislation.

As an ardent defender of the 2nd Amendment, and the rest of the Wisconsin and U.S. Constitutions, I believe it is important that we legislators take seriously our duty to introduce proposals in a serious manner. Whether or not authors of legislation had a specific intent, or just did not do their homework, we should be concerned at attempts to thwart constitutional rights.

Be assured that as long as I remain your Representative, I will continue to fight for the rights of the many despite the misuses of a few. I will continue to push for stronger punishments for those who use guns illegally, and defend the rights of those who use them legally. The overwhelming majority of gun owners own and use their guns and bullets legally, and responsibly. However, it has become the mission of some politicians to restrict gun rights because of the few that decide to use a gun while committing a crime. We must not lose sight that people, not guns, commit crimes. Attempts to curtail 2nd Amendment rights will only disarm the law abiding, not those hell-bent on evil acts.

Best regards,

Dave
