Trouble In Town During The Wee Hours
"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Sorry Lord, I consider what I'm about to write about as part of maturing. Wisdom comes with age, though my kids usual think only wrinkles and a receding hairline and gumline come with age.
While I never had a bumper sticker on my car that said, "I closed Wolski's", I did close a teen bar or two in Ixonia back in my day and managed to drive home to Milwaukee with an occasional stop in Waukesha at friend's houses. Sometimes a buddy, Conrad, and I would stop in West Allis. Sometimes at the George Webb on Lincoln and Beloit. Never did we cause trouble anywhere, be it witnessed or not.
Fast forward to today. Local taverns are being cited for being disorderly businesses and a knife fight at a George Webb. What's the solution? Part of the solution was stated in an article about it. Full Moon owner Gary Schlei said troublemakers will come from the Salty Toad because it closes earlier. Brilliant! How about a uniform closing time for taverns? Say, 4PM?
Hmm, haven't I quoted the conservative mantra of government getting out of the way of business? Oh, ok....guess I have to be consistent. Stay open as long as you want. However....he he....Your liquor license is only valid until a reasonable hour to be determined by the council once citizens have spoken up. After that time you can serve all the Sharps, coffee and soda that you want.
Ah, forget the coffee. Save that for the visit to George Webb.
