Today marks the first public demo of an unmanned Montgolfier brothers hot air balloon on June 4th, 1783. Not far behind, it also marks the first flight by a woman, opera singer Elizabeth Thible, in a Montgolfier balloon just one year later on June 4th, 1784. The Montgolfier brothers of France are recognized as the inventors of lighter than air travel.
I've been informed there again won't be a balloon rally at this year's Waukesha County Fair. The next best place to see lots of colorful balloons is the Hartford Rally at the Hartford Airport, this year July 17th through 19th.
If you have any questions about ballooning, Ken Walter is your man. There is always a need for people willing to get up at unbelievably early hours on days off work to crew. Chasing a balloon, never knowing where it'll land, is one of the best ways to see the county, and days calm enough for flights are the best time to see it. Give Ken a call.
