Enriquez For Mayor

Politics-Local

I looked forward to seeing the slate of  mayoral  candidates and have not made a selection until just a few days ago. Mayor Nelson has not been a bad mayor. My contacts with him have been favorable, his door open and he has called me personally to appraise me of an issue that I was involved with when it would have been easy to let it pass. In politics it is often a small thing or a perception that can be favorable or unfavorable to a candidate. In the present political climate, there is an anti-incumbent and anti-liberal movement occurring. Mayor Nelson's open support of the candidate and now president Obama has not worked to his favor. It is time for a change.

Bill Beglinger is the only candidate who is a registered Republican. I too am a Republican. I also like his having been a Waukesha police officer. It implies law and order and discipline. Unfortunately I don't see or know enough else to sway me to favor him.

Alderman Radish has a working knowledge of the city and could move into the mayor's office seamlessly. Unfortunately that experience also can be considered the same as being an incumbent. As I said, there is an anti-incumbent movement.  I continued to look elsewhere.

Jeff Scrima is a businessman. I like that, having been involved in some small businesses myself. I admit to not knowing enough about him however. I question his views of our water situation. I'd like to see us avoid Lake Michigan water, but I reluctantly think we are headed that way unless state and federal rules are changed. He is not off of my list, but not at the top.

Darryl Enriquez is known to me. We've chatted at a few city hall meetings and I know his work with The Journal Sentinel. News media reporters are frequently liberal and that stereotype perhaps dimmed my opinion of him, at first. However, Darryl seems to have been the candidate working hardest for the position. His profession as a reporter has educated him on city matters perhaps as well as an incumbent but without the baggage that comes with holding a political office. In other words, he has much knowledge but without being an insider. That give a lot of freedom in making changes where needed and owing favors to no one.

I believe that Darryl Enriquez is best suited to represent our city and will be voting for him in the primary election.
