Unconstitutional

Politics-Local

My least favorite branch of the federal government is the Supreme Court. I don't profess to know all the ins or outs of the federal government, but I'm trying. Many have said that much of what the legislative branch does is unconstitutional. It seems to me that the Supreme Court isn't doing it's job of deciding what is Constitutional and what isn't. It shouldn't take a lawsuit and hot shot lawyers to decide. I think the document is pretty much clear and doesn't need much, if any, interpretation.

It is said that whatever is not allowed for in the the Constitution, is relegated to the individual States so long as it is not in conflict with the Constitution. At the recent Town Hall meeting of Senator Russell Feingold held in Whitewater, a citizen asked where in the Constitution does it allow for the creation of a health-care system, or words to that effect. The Senator replied that if that is unconstitutional, then there are many laws made by the legislature that are unconstitutional. I believe that to be true.

Now we zoom in to the Waukesha scene. I got a nice looking flier from Henry Balzer, candidate for the 4 district Alderman. He makes many interesting position statements and one in particular caught my eye.

He said, "I have the mentality that city government is only responsible for a few basic things; Protective Service, Roads(construction, maintenance and safe operation of), Water (and sewer) and garbage removal. Everything else is "nice to have", but unnecessary."

Government on all levels and particularly mandates by the Federal and State governments on counties and cities are out of control. I have not made up my minds on local races. When I do, I will say whom I am voting for and most importantly why.

What was the recent primary election turn-out? Something like 15% of elegible voters turned out? Come on people! This is why we have government out of control.

Elections are like a game of chess. The first moves have been made. Were you in control of any of the pieces?
