While raising children, Denise Meagher, a returning area native, became a published freelance writer, voice over talent and enthusiastic community theatre participant. She loves reading, writing, traveling, time with friends and most of her family and empty-nesting with husband, Ted.
Now You See Him, Now You Don't - What's a Busybody to Do?
Know any busybodies? I'm sure you do, or have. I remember the one we had living across the street when we lived in New Berlin. I don't know if this woman had nothing better to do than watch our house, but it got to the point our families quit talking. Though us kids waved just to be - friendly - whenever we passed by her house.
Love and Other Casualties of War - Miss Saigon
What I've gathered, the Vietnam War was a Cold War era military conflict that occured in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia from November 1, 1955 through the fall of Saigon on April 30, 1975. While growing up hearing snatches about it, I was too young to grasp the enormity of this situation. However, as I grew, I do recall a few things that were hard to ignore: the unrest, riots and volatile climate and an encounter I had with a Marine.
A Pod of Dolphins are Working a Miracle...
Helen Keller was eighteen-months-old and extremely bright when, "An acute congestion of the stomach and brain," like a ruthless thief, stole her sight, hearing and speech and left Helen locked in a dark, soundless prison. She would need a miracle to thrive.
Crossing Delancey - Touch My Roots
"Half" of me, courtesy of my father, comes from Russian/German/Jewish stock. When I think of my Grandma and Grandpa Wolfsohn, I think of Grandpa's keen sense of fun and Grandma's wonderful cooking. Mmm, the lavish dinners which I later learned were religious celebrations; the matzo balls and soup; chopped liver, borscht, salami, fat garlic pickles; the sweet sesame-flavored treat halvah, and the best corned beef I've ever eaten. (Waukesha's Rochester Deli, is a very close second!)
A Winter's Day Break - ACT Live! & Into the Woods, Jr.
Despite the relatively snow-free winter we've been having; well at least until now, the often times gray and shortened daylight hours can leave a body a bit cabin feverish. If that's how you're feeling; or if you've children that are driving you a little nutty and you're looking for a diversion, join us at Waukesha Civic Theatre this weekend. We've a warm, welcoming place for you as well as two shows featuring some of our area's creative, talented kids!
