New restaurant adds flavor to dining scene
Asian Fusion Bistro saw niche for Eastern food in Waukesha area
Flavors of the East unite to create a one-of-a-kind dining experience at Asian Fusion Bistro, one of Waukesha's newest restaurants.
A mix of Indian, Thai and Japanese cuisine, Asian Fusion is quickly becoming a favorite among those craving flavorful Eastern fare.
Bringing flavor to Waukesha was the inspiration for opening Asian Fusion Bistro for owner Sasmita Mishaa and her husband and restaurant manager Pranab Dash.
Realizing that there wasn't a variety of food options in the Waukesha area "was the first thing that got us started," said Dash.
He and Mishaa often made dishes bursting with flavor at home, but found themselves disappointed when food was when they dined out.
Japanese, sushi, Thai
"The whole taste factor got us thinking about it very seriously," said Dash. "We thought this would be something we could put our heart and soul into."
Asian Fusion Bistro opened on Sept. 17, 2012.
With two Indian chefs, a Thai chef and one of the pre-eminent sushi chefs in the area, Asian Fusion Bistro's menu doesn't fail to impress. Japanese items begin with a range of appetizers including crispy calamari, edamame and seaweed salad.
For the sushi lover, a la carte items are available as well as a variety of hand rolls such as a spider roll, Alaskan roll or a dynamite roll-scallops with spicy sauce.
Japanese dinner options include chicken, beef, salmon or tofu teriyaki and chicken katsu.
Among the Thai appetizers are egg and spring rolls, dumplings and coconut shrimp.
Entrées include a variety of noodle and curry dishes such as Singapore noodle, pud Thai, chicken peanut sauce as well as yellow, green and red curry.
The Indian portion of the menu is by far the largest, andentrées are divided between grill and curry items.
Appetizers include vegetable samosa, shrimp with hot garlic sauce and pakora.
Vegetarians can chose from a wide variety of entrées, most packed with vegetables, garlic, ginger and other spices.
Meat eaters can decide from a selection of lamb, beef, chicken and seafood entrées, all of which pack a flavorful punch.
Dash's favorite menu item is chicken tikka masala: Tandoori roasted chicken tikka in fresh tomato and cream sauce.
"It's just a smooth sauce," he said.
Dinner prices range from $9 to $11 for Thai entrées, $9 to $13 for Indian entrées and $5 to $15 for Japanese entrées.
One of the smallest but more interesting sections of the menu is Indochinese, "the blend of Indian spices to Chinese food," explained Dash. "It's a very special type of food and one of the most spicy."
Indochinese food is quite popular in India, he added. For those who don't like spicy, these dishes can be made mild.
Besides dinner, "we have a good lunch time buffet which is very attractive for the people from GE," said Dash.
The buffet consists of items from all three sections of the menu. Dash adds that it's a great opportunity for people to come in and sample the variety of foods.
The décor fits the menu in its Oriental theme. Take a seat at a table or watch the sushi chefs work their magic at the sushi bar.
A 35-person party room is available for larger groups. Asian Fusion Bistro also caters for any event.
In addition to their unique menu, what makes Asian Fusion Bistro unique is that "we are a family restaurant," not a chain restaurant, said Dash. "What we have is personal level customer service."
"We are very proud of the amount of jobs we've generated, added Dash. The couple also owns Chiang Mai Thai in Brookfield. "It just makes us feel great" knowing that hundreds of people over the years have benefited from their hard work.
"We've had very good reviews from our customers," said Dash. He added that "We do a lot of good stuff. We hope that the future will hold some good promise."
