Police evacuate hotel rooms after woman's frantic call

Feb. 5, 2012 | 3 comments

A frantic call from an Indiana woman who feared her gang-member husband was planning to shoot her led Waukesha police to evacuate several rooms at a hotel northeast of Waukesha Saturday night.

The woman called police about 9:15 p.m., saying she had gotten into an argument at a McDonald's restaurant with her 32-year-old husband from Indiana, who she said was a gang member, according to Waukesha police.

The argument escalated when the couple returned to their hotel, the Extended Stay at 2520 Plaza Court. The woman stayed in her minivan with her six kids while her husband went into the hotel room. She feared that he was going to get his gun to shoot her.

Police arrived and escorted the woman and her children to safety while surrounding the hotel room. Police also evacuated nearby rooms and called the man out of his room. He surrendered himself and his .45-caliber gun to the police about 10:15 p.m. The man was taken into custody without injury.

Police said they plan to recommend he be charged with recklessly endangering safety and domestic disorderly conduct.
