Waukesha man charged in card game stabbing
Complaint: Man accused of attacking friend with butcher knife
A 42-year-old Waukesha man was charged last week with allegedly stabbing a man in the head after an argument on Friday, Oct. 18.
Gary Winters, 245 Hinman Ave. #1, was charged on Wednesday, Oct. 23 in Waukesha County Circuit Court with second-degree reckless endangerment and battery.
According to the criminal complaint, Winters and his wife hosted several friends and family members at their house on the night of Friday, Oct. 18.
One of those friends, James C. Williams, told police in the complaint that him and his girlfriend were trying to leave the residence when Winters got upset and told them to stay. A fight then allegedly broke out between Winters, Williams, and a third man not currently facing charges, the complaint states.
Williams said he managed to leave the residence, but Winters allegedly ran up behind him with a butcher knife and cut the side of his head, the complaint states. The weapon was allegedly removed from the scene by Winter's wife, the complaint states.
Officers located the knife soaking in a sink and noted there was a strong smell of bleach in the apartment.
Williams' cut did not require stitches, according to the complaint.
Winters could face up to 10 years in prison and $35,000 in fines if convicted.
His cash bail was set at $5,000 during an initial appearance on Oct. 23. He is expected to appear at a preliminary hearing on Nov. 15.
