A Waukesha man reportedly told a 14-year-old boy he had a secret to tell him before allegedly grabbing the boy's butt behind a local gas station shed late last month.
As a result, 68-year-old Santos Velez was charged Monday, April 3, in Waukesha County Circuit Court with sexual assault of a minor under 16 years of age. The crime carries a maximum penalty of up to $100,000 in fines and 40 years in prison.
According to a criminal complaint, Velez spotted the boy on March 31 at a BP gas station, 500 Arcadian Ave., where the boy was buying a phone charger.
The two talked briefly outside the station before Velez reportedly directed the boy behind a shed adjacent to the station, saying he "needed to tell (the victim) a secret."

Velez grabbed the boy's butt once both were behind the shed, according to the complaint, but stopped abruptly when a police SUV pulled up to the station. He then allegedly pushed the victim away and ordered not to say anything about their encounter, telling the boy "something dangerous" would happen if he did.
Velez told the officer who stopped at the station and questioned him about the incident that the boy had suggested they go behind the shed and had asked Velez if he could come over to Velez's house, according to the complaint.
The officer noted in the complaint that he saw Velez emerge from behind the shed as he approached, and moments later saw the boy, walking in the opposite direction, do the same.
Online court records indicate Velez does have prior felony and misdemeanor convictions on his record, including one for second-degree sexual assault against a child.
He made his initial court appearance the same day he was filed and was ordered held on a $2,500 cash bond. His next hearing is scheduled for Friday, April 7.
