Waukesha West High School took third overall at the Wisconsin Academic Decathlon Competition on Friday, March 3.

According to a press release, several team members received high marks.

West team member Cameron Chyla took home seven medals, including two for perfect scores in both art and literature. Chyla’s scores broke the state record in literature and matched the state record in art.

Other West team members to walk away with medals included Uma Subramanian with one medal; Christian Brantner with two medals; Jordan Rodrigues with four medals; and Zach Nelton with three medals.

Both Chyla and Rodrigues earned Top Scholar Awards. Chyla, Rodrigues, Brantner and Sean McSorley all earned perfect scores in the Super Quiz Relay event.

“The accolades our students received at the banquet are reflections of their hard work this season,” West Academic Decathlon coach Amy Unti-Runnells said in the release.

West team members include Chyla, Rodrigues, Subramanian, Brantner, McSorley, Sydney Olson, Justine Atkins and Abigail Arnold.
