The owners of the Mad Rooster Cafe were indicted by a grand jury last year for violating federal tax laws and were charged with conspiring to impede the Internal Revenue Service.

How the federal cases will impact its new restaurant, at 130 NW Barstow St. in Waukesha, is unknown.

Paul Bouraxis, his wife, Freida Bouraxis, 60, their son Andreas Bouraxis, 38, and son-in-law Reiad 'Ray' Awadallah, 44, all of Franklin, are alleged to have skimmed cash from the receipts of three of the restaurants they operated, and a 33-count indictment was issued against them.

The family operated the Omega Burger restaurant on South 27th Street in Franklin, El Fuego restaurant located on West Layton Avenue in Milwaukee, and the El Beso restaurant located on South 74th Street in Greenfield.

Paul Bouraxis faces up to 85 years in prison and fines of up to $3.75 million. Freida Bouraxis faces up to five years in prison and a fine of $250,000. Andreas Bouraxis faces up to 19 years in prison and fines up to $4.75 million. Awadallah faces up to 14 years in prison and fines of up to $1 million.
