Leading police on a naked, drug-fueled jaunt through the city is good for about a year in prison, according to a Waukesha County Circuit judge.

A prison term was only part of the sentence, however, for Waukesha resident Mark Hunkins, the man leading the chase, who pleaded guilty late last month in Waukesha County Circuit Court to one felony offense tied to the incident.

Judge Michael Aprahamian sentenced Hunkins to a year and two months in prison and two years of extended supervision, according to online court records.

Hunkins has prior drug-related convictions. As conditions of his probation, he must perform 50 hours of community service, maintain absolute sobriety, submit to alcohol- and other drug-abuse assessment and follow through on any recommended treatment.

Hunkins, 29, was charged June 7 with a host of felony and misdemeanor offenses. Police had pulled him, naked, out of the Fox River following an overnight pursuit about a week earlier.

A criminal complaint said Hunkins told emergency personnel he was strung-out on cocaine the night of June 1 when he was prowling around a home in the 200 block of Charles Street; he then fled when police arrived in response to a neighbor’s call about a possible break-in.

Hunkins, who was not wearing anything, jumped in his car after seeing the officer and sped toward downtown — driving recklessly the whole way — before damaging and abandoning the vehicle and eventually jumping into the Fox River, the complaint said.

He was charged with lewd and lascivious behavior in public and two counts each of resisting or obstructing an officer and fleeing or eluding an officer. He pleaded guilty to one of the fleeing or eluding charges, and the rest were dismissed but read into the court record as part of a plea agreement.

Online court records indicate Hunkins owes the court $176; his address is listed as the Waukesha County Jail.

Charges are still pending against another Waukesha man, Leif Erickson, involved in a similar police chase last August. His next hearing is scheduled for Aug. 25.
