Sheriff’s department offers concealed carry class

The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department’s Firearms Training Unit will offer a concealed carry weapon (CCW) class at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the sheriff’s department, 515 W. Moreland Blvd., Waukesha.

The class will be 4½ hours long and will follow the Wisconsin Department of Justice CCW curriculum. Topics covered include firearms safety, aafe carry considerations, legal implications and CCW licensing in Wisconsin.

Attendees who successfully complete the class will meet the training requirement to apply for a Wisconsin CCW permit. Cost is $50.

Waukesha Choral Union to hold auditions

Open auditions for Waukesha Choral Union’s 2016-17 season will be held by appointment on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2016 Center Road.

Auditions with Artistic Director Michael Chapel will last about 15 minutes and include sight reading, pitch matching, harmonizing and a vocal solo.

Waukesha Choral Union is celebrating its 43nd season. WCU’s season-long theme of “From the Heart, For the Soul” includes collaborations with area choral groups, two Christmas concerts and a blend of sacred, traditional and popular music. Concerts are scheduled for October, December, March and May and also will be held in various area churches.

Parks department offers free concert series

The Tribute Tuesday Concert series takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month, through Sept. 13, in Cutler Park, 321 Wisconsin Ave., Waukesha.

The free concerts include the Journey tribute featuring Separate Ways on Sept. 13.

Aurora offers free skin cancer screenings

Free skin screening will offered at the Aurora Health Center, W231 N1440 Corporate Court, Suite 305, Waukesha, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, and from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22.

Screenings will be provided by a board-certified dermatologist or physician assistant.

County parks offer outdoor venues and camping

Hosting a family reunion, company picnic or planning an outdoor wedding? The Waukesha County Park System is taking 2016 reservations for picnic and group camping areas. Reservations are accepted through the park reservation desk from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. To view 2016 prices, visit waukeshacountyparks.com.

Park Entrance Stickers for 2016 are also available at Retzer Nature Center, S14 W28167 Madison St., Waukesha; Eble Park Ice Arena, 19400 W. Bluemound Road, Brookfield; Naga-Waukee Park Ice Arena, 2699 Golf Road, Delafield; the Parks and Land Use office, 515 W. Moreland Blvd., Room AC230, Waukesha; or order via the entrance hut pay tank at each park location.

These entrance stickers are good from the date of purchase through Dec. 31, 2016. Cost for a Waukesha County resident is $32 per car and $16 for a second vehicle; $16 for a senior and $10 for a second vehicle. Cost for an out-of-county resident is $42 per car and $21 for a second vehicle. Lake Access stickers are $80 per car and $40 for a second vehicle.

Walk-in clinic has extended Tuesday hours

The Waukesha County Public Health Division is offering extended walk-in clinical services on Tuesdays.

The hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

Public health services are available on a fee for service basis and/or for a nominal fee. Medicaid is accepted only for residents of Waukesha County.

Walk-in clinical services are located within the Human Services Center at 514 Riverview Ave., Waukesha.

ProHealth Care offers monthly Garden Talks

Community members are invited to participate in free monthly Garden Talks, offered by ProHealth Care and University of Wisconsin-Extension master gardeners.

The talks will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month in Waukesha Memorial’s Lobby Rooms 1 and 2. Participants can register for individual classes or the entire series at ProHealthCare.org/Classes or 262-928-2745.

Items collected at no fee include computers, printers, keyboards, laptops, scanners, DVD players, VCRs, stereos, cellphones, air conditioners and more.
