The city announced this week that a portion of Sunset Drive, between West and Prairie avenues, will close temporarily next week to facilitate repairs on a railroad crossing there.
The closure is scheduled to begin on Monday, Oct. 10, and last four days. A city project engineer did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the nature of the work.
Repairs to that and several other crossings in the city were completed last year under order of the Office of Commissioner of Railroads. The city filed a complaint with the OCR in 2014 saying that Wisconsin Central Ltd., a railroad subsidiary of the Canadian National Railway, failed to maintain in good condition six roadways in Waukesha.
It was not immediately clear why additional work on the Sunset crossing is scheduled, but some motorists have noticed a large vehicle-jarring hump when they are traveling westbound over the tracks.
