Kwik Trip will expand its Waukesha footprint with another new gas station and convenience store.
Construction on the new station, the city's first Kwik Trip Express, began shortly after the Waukesha Plan Commission unanimously approved final site and design plans for the building in early November.
The Express store will replace the Citgo Expo station at 1700 Pewaukee Road, which is about a third of a mile north of the Waukesha County Courthouse complex. It will be the fifth Kwik Trip location in Waukesha. The fourth, at 2001 Golf Road, opened earlier this year.
Since construction began, signs have been removed from the building, the canopy over the gas pumps has been demolished and the interior of the station has been gutted.
Kwik Trip Express stores are smaller than full-sized stores and do not carry hot food, according to the company. The Express version is relatively new for the Kwik Trip and designed for urban areas and smaller lots. Also, they often make use of existing buildings, as will be the case on Pewaukee Road.
The building's interior will be remodeled and its exterior changed to the company's branding.
A time line for completion of the station was not specified.
In addition to those five Waukesha locations, two Tobacco Outlets, one on Sunset Drive and one on Summit Avenue, are also listed as Kwik Trip locations on kwiktrip.com, though neither store sells gas and the Kwik Trip brand isn't shown in signage.
The La Crosse-based company has been expanding in the region for the past decade, with 26 locations now listed in the Milwaukee metro area, according to the company website.
