Mom's wish is to take her family to Disney World
The Meadowbrook Elementary School community rallied around the Jerdon family and collectively raised more than $34,000 through a fundraiser dinner, raffle, silent auction, GoFundMe page and private donations. A fundraiser was held Feb. 3 at Meadowbrook Gymnasium.
According to a statement from the Waukesha School District, Kysa Jerdon, 5, is in kindergarten at Meadowbrook School. Her mom, Laina Jerdon has aggressive tumors on her brain and lungs.
It has been Laina's dream to take a family vacation to Disney World with her husband, Todd and youngest daughter Matea,3. Culver’s on Grandview Blvd. donated all the food and and cupcakes by Sarah Geist. Between 250-300 guests attended the dinner last week.
An event press release said Laina was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in January of 2014. She had an aggressive and successful treatment undergoing surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation to leave her considered cancer-free by July of 2014. In December 2016, an intermittent headache and waves of nausea took Laina into Urgent Care.
Due to her medical history, the team ran a CT scan of her brain and discovered tumors in her brain and her lungs. Statistical data is not necessarily applicable because of Laina’s young age, but many in her condition will not outlive a year.
The release said it has been a long-time dream of Laina’s to take the girls to Disney World. In just a couple trips, Disney’s magic has made some of her most wonderful memories and she’s been longing to show it to the girls while they are still young.
Laina had set a goal to save for a trip sometime in 2018, but with the news, it is one of her dearest wishes to move that up.
