Any Waukesha residents fed up with cabin fever this winter can break out of their doldrums this weekend by hitting the links at Moor Downs Golf Course, 438 Prospect Ave., Waukesha County officials announced Tuesday, Feb. 14.
The course is scheduled to open early this year – around 8 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17 to be precise, according to a news release. County Executive Paul Farrow will tee off the season with a ceremonial swing.
“The warmer temperatures have a lot of golfers anxious to get out,” Farrow said in the release. “Waukesha County wants to give those golfers a place to play, and Moor Downs is perfect.”
However, the county will not announce an official start of the golf season until all three county golf courses – Moor Downs, Naga-Waukee and Wanaki – are open. With an unseasonably warm winter (so far), there are likely some high hopes of starting the official golf season earlier than normal.
The release said county staff are monitoring turf conditions at the Naga-Waukee and Wanaki golf courses to determine when those courses will be ready for players.
