As the NCAA basketball tournament draws to a close, the Waukesha police and fire departments are gearing up for their own championship of sorts.
But they're not playing for a trophy – they're playing for charity.
Members from both departments will clash in the seventh annual Waukesha Police and Firefighter Basketball Challenge at 7 p.m. Friday, March 31, at Catholic Memorial High School, 601 E. College Ave.
Tickets are $5 at the door, and the proceeds will go to the winning team's charity of choice. The police department is playing for the Special Olympics and the fire department is playing for Operation Warm.
The event will also feature a raffle with a variety of prizes and a halftime performance from Liberty Dance Center.
The police department, which has won the last four contests, holds a definitive edge in the competition with a 5-1 record.
