Player to watch:

TJ Garrity. The defensive lineman was only honorable-mention All Conference last year, but his profile has taken off, to the tune of getting a scholarship offer from New Mexico with interest from several Big Ten schools. At 6-5, 235, he won’t be easy to miss on the field.

Keep an eye on: Luke LeCaptain. The team’s second-leading tackler last year returns to his linebacking position, one of several players new coach AJ Raebel feels has the potential to breakout.

We say: The script is largely the same for South, though the new coach could inject something new after long-tenured coach Dave Rusch stepped down. South just hasn’t had the depth to compete with the Classic 8’s top tier in past years, but Raebel said his first order of business is to focus on raising the football IQ, and that includes moving a number of kids around to different positions. This isn’t likely to be the year South sees rewards reaped in the win-loss column, but it could definitely be the year something big starts to brew.
