The lowdown

Waukesha North seemed to enjoy a breakthrough in 2015-16. Even though it was plagued by inconsistency at times, a close loss to eventual Division 1 finalist Muskego, huge win over conference heavyweight Arrowhead and a second straight trip to the WIAA Division 2 sectional were major highlights for a program on the rise. Some key pieces were lost, and they aren't the favorite to win the Classic 8, but there are absolutely scenarios where the Northstars make a push for that crown. Kendall Gould was second-team All Conference last year, and Will McDonald was a revelation in the frontcourt.

Opening tip

Several key players from the team's improved football squad, such as Gould, McDonald, Taylor Anderson and Brennan Demark, will be on the hardcourt as well. Ditto for freshman Chimere Dike, who had a strong first season on the gridiron. Coach Sam Katula said he wants his team to pride itself on being one of the best defensive teams in the area and he expects a faster-tempo offense with outside threat Adam Wieczorek graduated.
