Denver Broncos inside linebacker Brandon Marshall (54) kneels during the national anthem before the start of the game against the Atlanta Falcons at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

The Denver Broncos' Brandon Marshall received some ugly hate mail that he then shared on Instagram on Friday with the following caption:

The hatred by some against people of color is one of the reasons we are where we're at in the world today, and they wonder why we feel the way we do and take the stances that we take. I received this letter at work.

Marshall is one of the players who joined Colin Kaepernick in the national anthem protests to bring attention to racial inequality and police brutality, and he has spoken about how when he sees the American flag, he sees how much more the nation has to overcome. As he hints at in the IG caption, it's sadly not surprising that he received a racist, hate-filled letter like this.

Marshall was asked about the letter by reporters. In response to a question about why this one in particular stood out when he had said he received other hate mail in the past after he kneeled for the anthem, he replied:

"I think because it was a threat. They said, 'You got something coming to you so I guess you're going to be in a wheelchair' … just so many racist, derogatory terms that was in it. It was just a bunch of crazy things that was in it … That stood out to me that someone would have that much hate or malice towards me, or put that much energy into writing something like that and send it to me. It takes so much energy to hate. I just don't understand it."

But racist people who write letters like that one aren't the only people that exist. After posting on Instagram, Marshall received at least two other letters of support that people wrote by hand and shared on social media.

C.J. Anderson sent words of support on Twitter, as well.

Per the Denver Post, the Broncos are investigating the letter that was sent anonymously.
