Waukesha tennis players were making preparations for the state tournament at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison after qualifying last week.
Riley Tetschmann of Waukesha South (19-17) won both his matches at No. 2 singles to earn an automatic spot at state from the Waukesha sectional. He'll face Will Tennison of Verona (21-6) in the opening round Thursday. The latter, just a freshman, is seeded 10th overall.
Ben Graichen and Hunter Louis of South (22-15) also won their first match at the sectional and will close their senior season at the state meet. They drew Logan Piper and Spencer Krebsbach of Oregon (20-2) in the first round.
Tommy Matoska of Catholic Memorial (21-5), a state doubles finalist last year after winning the state title in doubles the year before to become the first CMH champion in school history, will try singles this year, advancing in the Division 2 tourney to face Zach LeVene of Rancalli (18-6) in the first round.
In doubles, seventh-seeded junior Andrew Diedrich and sophomore Mitchell Teutberg (12-4) will face Brock Martin and Sam Stone of Regis (11-2).
Ben Bue of Waukesha North wwon his flight of the sectional at No. 3 singles, and Zach Pittz of South won at No. 4. Automatic berths were awarded to top-four finishes at the No. 1 flights and top finish at No. 2.
