Wisconsin Lutheran's Kon Knueppel named Mr. Basketball by WBCA

The Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association has named Wisconsin Lutheran senior Kon Knueppel II as the 2024 winner of the Mr. Basketball Award, according to a release Wednesday.

Knueppel has led the Vikings to a 28-0 record entering the WIAA Division 2 state tournament, in which Wisconsin Lutheran holds the top overall seed in the division. The Duke commit has averaged 26.4 points, 8.8 rebounds and 5.1 assists, leading Wisconsin Lutheran in each category. His 1,941 career points entering the state tournament are also a school record.

The senior is the son of Chari Nordgaard Knueppel and Kon Knueppel, each successful collegiate players who left their respective programs as the all-time leading scorers.

Among the other finalists for Mr. Basketball were: Dupree Fletcher Jr. of Carmen Northwest, Tim Franks of Homestead, Nick Janowski of Pewaukee, Jaquan Johnson of Pius XI Catholic and Amari McCottry of St. Thomas More. Knueppel II joins recent greater Milwaukee-area winners Milan Momcilovic of Pewaukee (split with Zach Kinziger of De Pere in 2023), Seth Trimble of Menomonee Falls (2022) and Brandin Podziemski of St. John's Northwestern Military Academies.
