Ohio State receiver Torrance Gibson was suspended by the university for an unspecified violation, head coach Urban Meyer announced on Monday.

Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Torrance Gibson (6) against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish during the 2016 Fiesta Bowl at University of Phoenix Stadium. The Buckeyes defeated the Fighting Irish 44-28.

Exactly why the university suspended Gibson was not immediately made public.

“It was not from the athletic department or football (program),” Meyer said at weekly news conference. “I disagree with it.”

Gibson, a redshirt freshman, was a star high school quarterback at American Heritage in Fort Lauderdale, Fla, and one of the most highly recruited prospects in the nation. He spent the last year making the transition to receiver.

Meyer said he didn’t know what actions he could take to help make Gibson eligible.

“It’s not unique,” Meyer said when asked what recourse he had. “I have dealt with it.”
