Waukesha JanBoree Sunday, January 22 Schedule of Events

The Waukesha Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department announces the 27th Annual Waukesha JanBoree will take place Friday, Jan. 20 through Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012. The three-day festival, occurring throughout Waukesha County, will offer more than 30 free winter activities for adults and children alike.

The following is the Sunday line-up for the Waukesha JanBoree 2012 and all events are free unless otherwise noted:

Sunday, January 22

Charles Horwitz Planetarium “Orion: The Great Hunter”
Retzer Nature Center, S14W28167 Madison St.
9:00 am-3:00pm.
This colorful sky-laser program takes a light-hearted and imaginative look at the myths and stories associated with the constellation Orion, The Great Hunter of the winter sky. Admission is free and limited tickets are available in the lobby on show day.

Nature Activities
Retzer Nature Center, S14W28167 Madison St.
10:00 am-4:00 pm
Hike on nature trails, take advantage of the free use of snowshoes, and participate in various family nature activities throughout the day. Serving free hot cocoa and cookies. 11:00 & 1:15 pm, Bird Feeding program; 12:00 & 2:30 pm, Winter Tracking program.

Ice Fishing Clinic
Minooka Park Beach Area, 1927 E. Sunset Dr.
10:00 am-2:00 pm
This hands-on clinic will teach kids lifetime fishing skills and ethics. Equipment and bait will be available for use. For additional information call 262-548-7801.

Horse Drawn Wagon Rides
Minooka Park Beach Area, 1927 E. Sunset Dr.
11:00 am to 2:00 pm
Enjoy a horse-drawn wagon ride around the Minooka Park pond while taking in the beautiful winter scenery

Alaskan Malamute Dog Pull Event
Minooka Park, Picnic Area 3, 1927 E. Sunset Dr.
11:00 am- approximately 3:00 pm
Free Park Entrance for the day. Stop by to watch an official Alaskan Malamute Dog Pull. This will be an open competition with dogs pulling a cart on pavement up to 3,000 pounds (snow not required for event). For more information or to register your dog please visit www.amcw.org. Registration/Weigh-ins 9:00-10:30 am; Pull begins at 11:00 am.

Arctic Avalanche
Lowell Park, 2201 Michigan Ave.
Noon-5:00 pm
Enjoy 350 ft. toboggan runs for free. Availability is limited and supervised sledding and skating will be available.

Barnelopet (Children’s Cross Country Ski Race)
Minooka Park Picnic Area 1 &2, 1927 E. Sunset Dr.
1:30 pm start for 1K and 2 K race to follow.
Come share the excitement and tradition of cross-country skiing with family and friends at this fun event. Children ages 3-12 can slide and glide on a 1K or 2K groomed course. All skills and abilities are welcome and parents can ski along their child if they’d like. Registration begins at 12:30 pm. For additional information call 262-548-7801.

Indoor Ice Skating
Naga-Waukee Park Ice Arena, 2699 Golf Rd., Delafield
3:00-5:00 pm
Free admission for open skating for the entire family. Limited skate rentals are available for $2.50 per rental or bring your own.
