Waukesha County Projects Part of 2014 Milwaukee/NARI Tour of Remodeled Homes

April 24, 2014

Waukesha County residents will have an opportunity to “Explore Remodeling’s Finest”, with three recently completed remodeling projects in the area part of the 15th annual Milwaukee/NARI TOUR of Remodeled Homes, Sat., May 17 – Sun., May 18, 2014, from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily.

The TOUR of Remodeled Homes is produced by the Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Council, Inc., and sponsored by Kohler Co., First Supply, a leading Kohler wholesale distributor, VerHalen, The Pella Window Store, and Hallmark Building Supplies, Inc. The event will allow attendees to view 21 recently completed remodeling and home improvement projects from Milwaukee/NARI contractors at homes throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

The TOUR of Remodeled Homes will feature the following renovation projects in Waukesha County:

• GMH Construction: Kitchen Remodel • 1980 Jan Avenue • Waukesha
An additional 32-square feet of space and an improved layout was needed to transform the formerly cramped room with eat in dining into the homeowner’s “dream” kitchen. The countertop and cabinet layout were designed to provide room for five different family members to be in the kitchen cooking and working at the same time. The blue with vintage sand island in the center of the room adds a pop of color, while the seashell white glazed cabinets and light gray subway tile backsplash give the room a warm feel.

• Kowalske Kitchen & Bath: Kitchen and Powder Room Remodel • W327 N3883 Wooded Lane • Delafield
The remodeling goal was to update the overall look of the outdated kitchen and powder room bath, enhance functionality, create more storage, and accommodate the lifestyle of a busy family. To accomplish the established goals, the kitchen was gutted, with soffits, a wall, and several cabinets removed. This created more storage with efficient cabinet organizers, an oversized island, a pantry, and taller upper cabinets. Between the living room and kitchen, the plumbing was reworked from the upper level into a single column, with a peninsula added to create more counter space. Opening up the area that was once divided allows better interaction between the kitchen and living room, while the peninsula defines the space without hindering the overall functionality. The powder room received a makeover of a new furniture vanity and fixtures. Traditional design elements were used to maintain the style of the home, yet stand up to heavy use. The maple cabinetry is a combination of a paint with glaze on the surrounding cabinets, complimented by a glazed stain on the island. Different quartz countertop colors, thicknesses, and edge profiles were combined as well. Glass and iron lights above the island keep the space feeling open, while layers of general and task lighting create a comfortable workspace. The custom stained wood flooring and new base moulding gives a fluid feeling to the entire main level.

• NuStone Transformations: Kitchen and Two Bathrooms Remodel • W232 S6113 Charles Drive • Waukesha
The homeowners sought one company to help them enhance their home’s buffet area and two bathrooms, and to create the kitchen they desired. The kitchen renovation included new countertops in engineered quartz with beveled edges, a new backsplash, and a stainless steel undermount sink. The two bathrooms received makeovers that included new counters, a shower with a grab bar and curb, a tub in linen, toilets in biscuit, backsplash, undermount sinks, faucets, and fixtures. Cabinets in the kitchen, dining room, and bathroom were completely refaced, and additional storage and lighting strips were added.

An added attraction for the 2014 TOUR of Remodeled Homes is an opportunity to win a 2.5 bath and kitchen Kohler Alteo faucet package in chrome polish valued at more than $1,000. Patrons that visit at least six of the project locations will be eligible to register to win the prize package.

TOUR of Remodeled Homes admission is $4 in advance, and $7 at the door of the projects. Through Fri., May 16, advance tickets can be purchased between 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Milwaukee/NARI Home Improvement Council office, 11815 W. Dearbourn Ave. in Wauwatosa.

Attendees that bring two, non-perishable food items to the door of the first project they visit will receive a $2 admission discount, with the food items to be donated to The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County.
