Jim LaBelle Named Waukesha Choral Union Marketing Director
The Waukesha Choral Union (WCU) is pleased to announce it has selected Jim LaBelle as its new marketing director, effective immediately.
"We selected Jim from a group of four qualified candidates,” said Tom Custis, WCU board president. “Due to his personal background in vocal music, his professional experience with other not-for-profit arts groups, and his unbridled enthusiasm we believe that Jim is the right person to help our organization grow in membership and in community recognition."
“I’m anxious to spread the word about the Waukesha Choral Union, with its reputation for great performances, community involvement, and long history,” said LaBelle, well known Milwaukee radio personality, who also has an extensive arts performance history, as well as a related educational background.
“The Waukesha Choral Union has selected the right person at the right time for its new marketing director,” said Ernie Brusubardis III, WCU music director. “As a public figure, vocalist, and longtime arts advocate, Jim will help WCU mature as a choral organization in Wisconsin’s arts community.”
Jim LaBelle, often known as “Lips” LaBelle during his 26 years at WKTI radio, has been a performer with the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus, Chamber Singers, Master Singers, and First Congregational Church Choir in Wauwatosa. He currently sings with Midwest Vocal Express male a cappella chorus, for which he has led the marketing, public relations, and development efforts for the last eight years. LaBelle also is executive director of the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra, and a marketing advisor to the Milwaukee Choral Artists.
LaBelle’s education is in the arts, with BAs in Fine Arts Management and Vocal Music Performance from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa. Jim and his wife Charmaine live in Mukwonago, Wisconsin, where she is an elementary music specialist.
As the premiere vocal group in the area, the Waukesha Choral Union has been musically active in the community for over 50 years. Originally a combination of the Carroll College student chorus and community singers known as the Waukesha Choral Society in 1949, the group became the Town and Gown in 1961 and the Waukesha Choral Union in 1974, taking its present form as an auditioned choir in 1978.
