College Goal Sunday Assists Students in Navigating the Financial Aid Process
Waukesha – For the second year in a row, the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha will host locally College Goal SundaySM, set here for Saturday, Feb. 20, from 2-5 p.m. This nationwide program makes free information and assistance available to high school seniors, first-year students, veterans, and families who are completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the essential first step in securing federal financial aid such as grants and loans.
The workshop will be held in the Commons building on campus, located at 1500 N. University Drive, Waukesha, and there is free parking in all campus lots.
It is open to all students, no matter what their background or where they intend to enroll in college. Last year, 787 students and families were helped at sites throughout Wisconsin, and 20 were awarded $250 scholarships from the College Goal SundaySM program.
Included at the event will be resources for first-year and returning students as well as veterans. Financial aid counselors from local high schools and colleges/universities will be on hand to answer questions. Help is available for any student planning to attend a post-secondary institution anywhere in the country. All students who attend the event will be entered into a drawing for a $250 scholarship.
Before attending the event, students and parents should apply for a US Department of Education personal identification number (PIN) by going to www.pin.ed.gov Other information students will need to bring in order to complete the form are: their Social Security numbers (and parents’, if they are providing information); their driver’s license number, if they have one; their alien registration number if they are not US citizens; 2009 federal tax information or returns (including W2’s for self, spouse, parents); savings and asset information, and any records of untaxed income.
