UW-Waukesha Announces World Premiere Comedy, Thieves

WAUKESHA – The University of Wisconsin-Waukesha Lunt-Fontanne Ensemble theatre department announces its spring production of the comedy, Thieves, which will be making its world premiere.

Written by Doug Bedwell and directed by UW-Waukesha Assistant Professor Steven Decker, Thieves takes a comedic look at the many sides of the American dream and is making its debut at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on April 15, 16, 17. Show times are 7:30 p.m. with an additional 2 p.m. show on April 16.

“This is an exciting process for the actors because they are creating these characters for the first time on stage with no preconceived notions,” Decker said. “This can be very freeing for an actor, as well as a challenge, stepping into the unknown. Having access to the playwright for insight on why he wrote what he did is truly an asset when producing a world premiere.”

All seating is general admission. Tickets for Thieves are $8 for adults, $7 for students and senior citizens and free to UW-Waukesha students with campus ID. Tickets will be sold at the theatre box office, which opens one hour prior to show time. For information about the performance please call 262-521-5209.

The UW-Waukesha Lunt-Fontanne Ensemble will present a summer theatre production of Little Shop of Horrors, a musical by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, July 16, 17, 23, 24 at 7:30 p.m. and July 18 at 2 p.m.

The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre presents a wide variety of productions, including classical work, new plays, musicals and family oriented work. As a college theatre program, which also relies on members of the community in its productions, the primary goal of the program is the education of students. This process of learning requires students to participate in a wide variety of theatrical genres, periods and styles which reflect the current contemporary theatre landscape. Many students have gone on to professional careers in acting, directing, playwriting, theatre education and theatrical production. In addition, there are many opportunities for community members to be involved both on stage and off. New faces are always welcome. Please contact Stevne Decker, Assistant Professor of Communication and Theatre Arts at UW-Waukesha at steven.decker@uwc.edu for current opportunities to be a part of the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

The University of Wisconsin-Waukesha has the largest enrollment among the 13 freshman-sophomore University of Wisconsin Colleges campuses. For information about programs, admission or financial aid, contact the Student Services office at 888-2UW-WAUK (888-289-9285) or visit the Web at www.waukesha.uwc.edu.
