Art - Stuck on Stockis
Opening Reception for Tom Stocki’s “Naturescapes,” a collection of colorful watercolors which lean toward the abstract happens SUNDAY APRIL 18th 2pm until 5pm at Taylors People’s Park 337 W. Main St. Waukesha. Share a complimentary glass of wine and meet the artist!
From Friday afternoon art classes at St. Ignatius Grade School to a very influential art teacher at Pius XI High, art has always been a part of Tom’s life. He has a BFA Degree from Layton School of Art and has worked most of his professional career as an Art Director and Graphic Designer. He has taught art on a high school level and as a guest instructor on a college level. He currently serves on the Graphic Department Advisory Committees at both Mount Mary College and MATC. Throughout the years he has won numerous awards both locally and nationally. Tom’s paintings have been exhibited at the Blue Dolphin Gallery in Door County, The Gilded Edge in Elm Grove and the Gregory Brian Gallery in Wauwatosa.
Artist’s Statement: The medium of watercolor is known for control, how much pigment to mix and how much water is used to determine a specific outcome. However, I enjoy the spontaneity of the medium. Of watching the paint play on the wet paper by spraying water or moving the surface after adding the paint. Of watching the colors blend, much like they do in nature… ever changing. By experimenting with the process, I’ve let the paint form erosion, reflections, root systems, and moods. That’s why I chose the name Naturescapes as a title for this show. The paintings lean toward abstract while still having a feeling of a landscape. Art is meant to draw the person in, both the painter while he’s creating, and the observer when he views.
