Two Mukwonago Fire Department personnel are now in self-quarantine after transporting an individual who later tested positive for COVID-19, Fire Chief Jeffrey Stien said Friday.

The department was informed of the case by the Waukesha County Health Department on Thursday and the two emergency personnel were then ordered to self-quarantine.

They will be in quarantine until April 12, Stien said.

Mukwonago is taking additional precautions on emergency calls, including wearing masks on every call, Stien said.

"We're increasing (personal protective equipment) and that's something we modify as cases are increasing," Stien said. "We know it's out there in the community and it's not always tested and not always confirmed. We're just doing our best to screen and take other precautions and other responses."

The department's staff numbers won't be greatly affected by the decrease in personnel.

"We continue to rotate shifts, so the operation is going on as usual for now," Stien said. "That's another reason to make sure we're taking all the proper precautions."
