Residents forced to evacuate due to an apartment fire in downtown Waukesha

A fire broke out inside a Waukesha apartment Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 825 N. East Ave. No injuries were reported.

The cause of an apartment fire that forced the evacuation of its residents Wednesday morning, Oct. 3, in Waukesha is under investigation.  

Firefighters were called at 8:17 a.m. for a structure fire at 825 N. East Ave., according to a Waukesha Fire Department news release.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from an apartment on the back side of a multifamily residential building. Occupants were evacuating when firefighters arrived.

The apartment is on the east side of downtown. 

The fire was located in the living room area in the first-floor unit and was brought under control at 8:30 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross is assisting displaced residents with housing needs.
